Heritage Design Gems: Common Vision

Today’s Heritage Design Gem:  Clearly Defined and Common Vision/Purpose

Did you have a chance to read the article below focused on Key Elements in the lives of successful multi-generational families and their trusted advisors?

The second key element is a clearly defined and common vision that is revisited regularly.  Very similar to identifying a couple’s financial goals which leads to the financial plan, estate plan, and philanthropic planning that is revisited at least annually with their advisors….it is important for the family to define their vision or purpose that becomes the focus of their legacy/heritage plan.

We normally start with G1 (Generation 1) to begin drafting the foundation of the family vision and then create an opportunity at the Initial Heritage Day (1st family meeting) for dialogue and input from G2 (and maybe even G3) that results in alignment for the family.   Together the family can work together to also create the family purpose statement.

The desired outcome of Heritage Design is to document what and who made them who they are today, what they stand for and what matters most to them now and in the future.

Have you documented a vision/mission/purpose statement for your family?

What are the benefits to you and your family to have a documented vision/mission/purpose statement?
