Today’s Heritage Design Gem: Keep the Family Separate from the Business
Do you work with families who own a business but act like A BUSINESS THAT OWNS A FAMILY or do they keep the Family Separate from the Business?
Last quarter, I asked you to think about roles needed in the business of being a family and the importance of mentoring the next generation to step into those roles. While every family member may not be suited to play a significant role in a family business, they should still be honored as a valued family member and encouraged to share their strengths by fulfilling important roles within the family. This is KEY Element #4 in the article below.
The desired outcome of Heritage Design is to help the family understand how vital it is to keep the two entities separate and help each family member find their role(s) within the family. In some cases, this is not an easy concept for the family to embrace but with specific tools and exercises, we use it becomes clear and energizing for the family…helping them take their family to the next level.
